A.T. Still University - MESA

Well, here it is Thursday and the phone call has not come. I did read on Student Doctor.net that one of the people who interviewed on the same day as I did got a phone call on Tuesday.

The dreaded letter came smashed between two other parcels. I was put on their "alternate" list.

Disappointing to say the least, perhaps the alternate list will show me some love.

Dang it all...strike two.

A.T. Still University MESA Interview

The interview at A.T. Still University Mesa,AZ was a long day indeed. The day started at 8 am and went until 2:30 pm.

Nichole came with me and she was able to sit through the entire day with the exception of the two personal interviews.

We both really enjoyed the area and the campus was absolutely top notch. I was impressed by the facilities and the campus as a whole, but I was really impressed with some of the things that this school does that is outside of the "box" so to speak when compared to most other medical school.

This is a school that is not afraid to be progressive and innovative, two attributes that I like.

We were told that if we are accepted, we should expect a phone call during the week of February 23-27. If not, should we get wait listed or rejected, we should expect to receive a letter in the regular mail.

Let us all hope the phone rings instead of the notice coming smashed between a mercantile catalog and the envelope that tells me I have won ten million dollars....for the 8th time.

Touro University Interview RESULTS

Roger Corbman, Director of Admissions, sent me an email late Thursday night with the results of my interview.

I was advised that my application status is: Waitlisted

The waitlist will begin to see movement starting May 15th. He advised that there is a lot of movement from the waitlist to an acceptance so I will have to cross my fingers.

I tried, did my best, and everything else is out of my control.

Touro Interview

I had my interview at Touro University in Nevada today.

The day started out with a brief tour of the campus followed by a discussion with the director of admissions regarding things such as financial information and campus polices, etc.

My interview group was a group of 12 students, two of which were from BYU.

After our discussion with Roger Corbman, Director of Admissions and really nice guy, we split up in groups of six. The first group of six had interview with two faculty members and the other six did a detailed tour of the campus with two current first year students. They showed us all of the major aspects of the campus including the lecture hall, anatomy lab, library and break rooms.

We then came back and our group went in for interviews. I interviewed with two really nice faculty members, Dr. Skyba and Dr. Bondarenko. They had my application in front of them and reviewed some things and asked me questions. One of the questions asked was if Obama asked me to make a change to the health care system, what would it be. I thought I answered that question just fine. The asked me about family life and about my experience flying airplanes and a few other things. I felt that I did the best I could do and that there is nothing that I could have changed to do better. I gave it my best effort and that is all I can ask of myself.

Roger Corbman advised us that we would know the admissions decision on Feb 13th in the morning.

There are three possible outcomes: admitted, waitlisted, rejected. Roger said that one third of the people on the waitlist are usually moved into an admitted status as students who get acceptances choose to go to other schools, thus freeing an open spot in the upcoming class. Additionally, some of those on the waitlist are given early acceptances in the next years class and don't have to go through the application process again.

The interview started at 8:30 am and we finished at about 3pm. I was ready to head home after the day and I was extremely tired.

I have scheduled the interview for Feb 16, 2009 in the 8 a.m. group.

A Whole Bunch Of Quiet

I have not heard from any other schools regarding interviews yet. I am certainly glad to have the ones I have but it would be nice to have a few more to increase my odds.

Another Post Secondary Update....

I received a letter in the mail from A.T. Still University Kirksville, MO campus.....

I was advised that I am on a pre-interview hold and they will let me know if that status changes. Basically a rejection pre-interview.

I am still crossing my fingers for an acceptance somewhere!

Interview Invites!

I got an interview invitation from two schools:

Touro University in Henderson, NV on February 3

Lake Erie College of Medicine in Erie, PA on March 12


I was beginning to think I wasn't going to receive any interviews. At least I know I have a chance at getting in somewhere. I guess the holidays slowed everything down. Now, I am hoping things really speed up and move forward.

Secondary Update

I decided not to submit a secondary application to Pacific Northwest University because they prefer students form the pacific northwest area and they only have a class size of 75. In addition, their secondary application fee is $175.00 compared to $50 for most other secondaries. Why waste my money when I really don't have a chance?

I also did not submit a secondary to Western University in Pamona, California. I decided that I was not willing to live in the Pamona area so why return that secondary and waste more money?

I have not yet submitted secondary applications to Philadelphia College of Medicine's Philadelphia & Georgia campuses.

I did not return a secondary to Pikeville College of Medicine in Pikeville, KY either. I may do that in the next few weeks depending on what colleges I may or may not hear from.

I received word back from Rocky Vista in Colorado; they said I was waitlisted pre-interview so I have little hope for that school. I was also waitlisted pre-interview for Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ. I have no hope for that school either.

Schools I have yet to hear back from after submitting my secondaries are:

LMU Tennessee, Nova Southeastern University Florida, Lake Erie Florida Campus, West Virginia College of Medicine, A.T. Still University Missouri and Arizona campuses.

Lorraine, I just don't know if I can take that kind of rejection...

Ohio University notified me today that they regret to inform me that I am not smart enough and that I don't posses enough Uncle Rico moves to be admitted to their school. Better luck next time! Maybe I will end up selling Tupperware after all.

First Secondary Submitted !

I submitted my first secondary application to AZCOM (Glendale, AZ).

I am not really happy with Interfolio, the company that processes my letters of recommendation. Apparently they do not deliver the letters electronically to all medical schools as I assumed they did and as they lead you to believe. I had to have Interfolio mail them regular mail and they won't arrive until next week. My secondary application was transmitted to AZCOM electronically.

Everyone should have the ability to send and receive all types of documents electronically these days. It makes no sense to have half of your application accepted electronically but require paper copies to complete it.

This sounds like a government operation.

Received My First Secondary Application

Midwestern University Arizona (Glendale, AZ) sent me an email today saying I meet their criteria for receiving a secondary application. They embedded a link in the email to fill out the secondary application electronically. The cost? $50 more dollars.

I am finally seeing some forward movement.

Progress Is My Middle Name

Ok, so I was tired of waiting for AACOMAS to "process" my application. I finally emailed them today, after office hours, and I get a response several hours later that said my application was verified November 12 (today).

NICE!

All Quiet On The Western Front

Alright, here it is into the fifth week and the application is still "processing". I guess AACOMAS isn't being very generous, it looks like they are going to take every bit of the "three to six weeks" indicated on their website.

COME ON! It is getting to be the holiday season. Show me some CHEER!!!!!

There Is No Such Things As Fast

I did some research on www.studentdoctor.net to see how long other applicants were waiting for their applications to be verified. It appears that it is taking four weeks to have these verified and distributed to my requested schools.

What are they trying to verify? They were sent a hard copy of my college transcript and have already verified that. My MCAT score was submitted electroncially by AMCAS and has already been verified. The rest of my application was submitted electronically with nothing to really verify. What, they want to verify that my personal statement is still personal? HURRY UP!

Second Letter Of Recommendation Received

I received my second letter of recommendation two days ago. I currently have two more letters outstanding, both very important for my application. I keep checking every day to see if Interfolio has posted them, still nothing. I am wondering if the request sent from Interfolio, via email, to the letter writers got caught in a spam filter?

Dr. Lott received his and I am hoping that the other two have just been busy.
